What 141 Miles is
141 Miles is an independent guide and briefing for the Jersey Shore. From Sandy Hook to Cape May Point, the coast runs about 141 miles, and every town along it has its own beach rules, badges, surf, parking, and places to eat. We put each town on its own page, layer the live data on top, and add an editor’s read of what’s worth your time. No paid placement, no averaged star ratings. For the longer version of why this exists, see About.
What it covers
The whole Shore, town by town. Each town page carries live weather, tides, beach rules, parking, and water quality, plus a written guide and a directory of vetted places. Towns are grouped into three regions, north, central, and south, which is also how you choose what the briefing leads with.
What Sand Dollars are
A reader endorsement, not a rating. Every signed-in reader gets 10 Sand Dollars, lifetime. Using one on a place says “I’ve been there, I’d go back, and I’d tell a friend.” The cap is the whole point: with only 10 to give, you give them to places that earn them. We never average them into a score, and no business has ever paid for one.
What the briefing is
The 141 Miles Briefingis one email a week, Friday mornings. You pick a region, north, central, south, or the whole shore, and each edition leads with what’s nearest you: weekend picks, beach conditions, what’s open, what to skip. Signup lives on the homepage and at the bottom of every page. One email a week, that’s the deal.
How we source listings and facts
Different facts come from different places, and we try to be plain about which is which:
- Weather and alerts use official public sources, the National Weather Service and NOAA, where available.
- Tides use NOAA/NWS or other cited public sources where applicable.
- Place information may come from licensed data providers, public sources, business websites, reader submissions, and human editorial review.
- Prices are photo-backed: readers submit observations, which get moderated into a canonical menu per place.
When a field is unknown, the page says so. We don’t invent hours, phone numbers, or URLs to fill a blank. We won’t claim this is perfect, conditions and details at the Shore change fast, but the goal is that you can always tell where a fact came from and how fresh it is.
What “verified” means
Verified means a person on the editorial side actually checked the entity and stamped it with a date. It’s human review, not an automated guess. Data that hasn’t been checked, or that has gone stale since the last check, is treated as exactly that until someone confirms it again. Automated and crowdsourced signals are useful, but we don’t dress them up as an editor’s call.
Found something wrong? Tell us.
Readers and business owners are both welcome to send corrections. The fastest path is the report link on a place’s own page, which tells us exactly what you’re looking at. For anything else, use the form below, the contact page, or email keith@141miles.com. If you run a place we cover and something’s off, we want to hear it.
Who runs this
141 Miles is edited by Keith O’Brien and operated by Total Emphasis LLC. The publication is independent: no paid placement, no outside investors, no advertisers. If we ever take money for any of it, we’ll say so.
